Devon Legion / Ladies Auxiliary Past Presidents Photo Board Restoration
Brian L. Morris
2019-03-15

Dear Members, as many of you know the Devon Legion has a Past Presidents Photo Board to acknowledge our Legion and Ladies Auxiliary Past Presidents. The Past Presidents Photo Board in an early form was unveiled in 1986. Originally it was constructed of rails mounted directly onto the Wall of Honour. It was modified at some point in the past to be a stand alone Photo Board mounted to the Wall of Honour. It was last updated in 2002. When the Devon Legion Hall went under major renovations at the start of the decade the Photo Board was removed from the Wall of Honour around 2011 and stored in the Devon Legion garage. In August 2018 the Past Presidents Photo Board was transported from the Devon Legion garage to Brian Morris's residence garage to allow the Photo Board to be updated and restored. The restoration work was completed by the end of February 2019.  On March 14th 2019 the final phase of the project was completed  by a strong work party to re-install the Photo Board back onto the Devon Legion Hall Wall of Honour. The installation work party consisted of James Hunter (Building Manager), Warren Wood (2018 Past President), Stanley Abma (2019 President) and Tracy Marcellus (Hall Rental Co-Ordinator). A summary of the restoration work completed by Brian Morris for this Devon Branch No. 247 70th Anniversary Project (1949-2019) is as follows:

  • All existing Past President photos were removed and scanned into a digital record for long term records retention (many photos are not replaceable).
  • All picture frame glass was cleaned as best as possible. Seven pictures on the left side were found stuck to the glass as it appears they got wet at some time in the past from some form of spray. These pictures were not removed to prevent damaging the photos.
  • A total of 16 vintage frames were located for the project. There is still a need for 6 more frames for future presidents so if you have any of these vintage frames you are willing to donate to the Devon Legion would be appreciated.
  • A total of 10 missing Devon Legion Past Presidents photos from digital files were added to the board in the same vintage frames.
  • A total of 4 missing Devon Legion LA Past Presidents photos from digital files were added to the board in the same vintage frames.
  • New name plate tags were purchased and installed under all the Past Presidents added to the photo board.
  • New title name plates were purchased and added to the photo board.
  • One missing LA President name tag was purchased and added as required.
I hope you enjoy the end results which is now on display in the Devon Legion Hall. Project photographs are detailed below for your enjoyment.

Best Regards

Brian Morris
